ALUMNI STORIES – Part 8: Qian Yazhuo 钱雅卓 International Journalist at The Beijing News 《新京报》

And I also met my husband.

This one year gave me the ability to collect information independently, to explore the truth of the problemwhile studying academically. In the process of analysing the academic problem, I learned how to find reasons and come up with solutions.  It also equipped me with understanding of what is news, what is a journalist, and at the same time it strengthened my future career ambition.

I started my MA study at the University of Westminster in the Autumn 2018. In May 2019, I received two internship offers from both Phoenix Satellite Television and China Media Centre. After pondering on my two choices over and over again, I decided to accept the offer from China Media Centre because I believe that I could learn more about the cutting-edge ideas from the global media experts in CMC’s training programmes.

Having graduated from the Global Media master programme at the University of Westminster in November 2019, I returned to China. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in early 2020, very few media organizations are recruiting. In April, I received a recruitment invitation from Shandong TV’s news centre and it turned out that the delegates I met in London were interviewing me for the job. I passed the test and levitra bon shopping was hired as an investigative reporter in one of their famous programmes, Wen Zheng Shandong 问政山东, meaning Face to Face with Shandong Policy-makers, a multi-media platform investigative news programme, which enjoys great popularity in Shandong, one of the biggest provinces in China home to 90 million people.  Every day, not only do I have to do investigation and interviews for Face to Face on screen but also attend live Broadcasting in “Lightning News” programme which is a successful new media app designed by Shandong TV. I am consistently learning how to be an excellent reporter in the fast-changing integrated media industry in China.

My five months of work at the China Media Centre has become among the most precious memories of my life. I am grateful to CMC staff for their help and advice. They have taught me to be independent, confident, hardworking and professional. My work at CMC in London leads me to meet my current boss at Shandong TV and all the skills I learned in London are now of great help with my new job as a News Reporter.

I had one of the most wonderful summers in London as an exchange student at the University of Westminster. It has been four years since I attended the summer school, and currently, I’m studying in a double-degree master program taught by Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. The summer school experience was a splendid combination of cultural immersion and multidisciplinary collaboration in the context of new media and the creative industry. 

I still remember how exciting it was when we were exploring markets in London and filming our short documentaries. It was a riot of street performance, antique shops, food culture, and graffiti walls. I was amazed by the fact that London has a rich culture with so many layers to discover. This is one of the reasons why I chose to study London again years after the summer school program-to live in different water and buy visa cialis great britain unpack more possibilities.

ALUMNI STORIES – Part 5: Wang Donglei 王冬雷 Editor in Chief of “UK Chinese Times” 中国时报

During the summer of 2012, I was a student, along with many classmates from Communications University of China, on the China Media Centre summer school. The three-week course focused on the deepest and newest topics in media industry. It opened the gate of profound and broad international vision for me. After closely listening to the top academics in the world, I started to keep up with global current affairs and found my interest in global communication grew more and more Moreover, London is always a great place to step onto a new part of the global stage, no matter which   practical or theoretical experience you are pursuing. 

Following the course, I came to the UK to continue the Master studies in journalism and culture, and I obtained the opportunity to work as a journalist and editor for a British Chinese newspaper, the UK Chinese Times. Subsequently I was promoted to become the Chief Editor of the newspaper. Now I plan to continue to study the media industry; my interest all originates in the experience of that summer school at China Media Centre.

ALUMNI STORIES – Part 4: Xia Mengshu 夏梦舒 Casting Director and Production Researcher of Houghton Street Media 恒顿传媒

In 2018, when I was studying my MA degree at the University of Westminster I worked as project assistant for China Media Centre. My performance impressed CMC colleagues who introduced me to an independent TV production company in China known as Houghton Street Media. I joined  the R&D and International Affairs team at Houghton Street Media after I successfully finished my study in the UK. My daily work is to do research and development, plan programmes as well as formats tracking. I also participated in the production of The Mysterious Life of Children《小孩的神秘生活》as the casting director, and another show aimed for young generation entitled BLK946. Everything I learned in UK and my work for CMC has been of great help to my current work.
