Hugo de Burgh, Director, and the novelist Yu Hua gave talks at the Milan Book Fair on 15 November. Yu Hua is a celebrity among young Italians, witness the enthusiasm with which they queued for autographs!
Over 400 mainly young people (very few of whom were Chinese) attended the talks, attesting to a keen interest in Chinese literature and media.
Yu Hua Is the renowned author of To Live, Crying out in the Drizzle, Chronicle of a Blood Merchant and Brothers.
Three of Yu Hua’s works were made into films successful internationally; To Live was adapted into a movie directed by Zhang Yimou, which won the Grand Jury and Best Actor prizes at the Cannes Film Festival in 1994.
