Editor in Chief and China Editor of the emerging economies analytical service  Trusted Sources (www.trustedsources.co.uk). Formerly Editor of The Observer, The South China Morning Post, and Reuters World Service. Has also held senior editorial positions with The Economist, The Independent and The Guardian. Author of ten books, with Phoenix: The Penguin History of Modern China due to appear at the beginning of 2008. Has been made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) and Knight of the French Order of merit for services to journalism.
