David Fortune

 

Director of Product Management, Wallingford Software, HR Wallingford Group

 

David has nearly thirty years’ experience of producing IT systems for use in the Water, Environment and Defence sectors, including infrastructure asset management, mathematical modelling and operational forecasting and control.  He is responsible for Wallingford Software’s products.

 

He was an industrial advisor to the China-UK Water and Wastewater Working Group and has enjoyed time spent in China, promoting the use of information technology solutions for the water industry.

 

David led the development of InfoWorks, the model management system that has become a global water industry standard for supporting planning and operations in water distribution, sewerage and river management. He has also directed the development of InfoNet, the information and data management system for water and wastewater infrastructure, and of FloodWorks, the operational system for real-time forecasting.

 

He has been an IT consultant for a number of environmental projects, including the provision of a real-time cyclone hazard warning system and the development of the OpenMI data-exchange standard for integrated environmental modelling.

 

David has a degree in mathematics, is a member of CIWEM (Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Managers) and was a Chartered Software Engineer (CEng).
