The China Media Centre is Europe’s only organisation specializing in the world’s largest media system. It was launched on 17 June 2005 by the BBC’s Jeremy Paxman and Sun Yusheng, Deputy President of China Central Television.
The China Media Centre has three main areas of activity.
First research, into various aspects of China’s media system.
Second, Knowledge Transfer. The Centre has managed briefings for Hunan Broadcasting, Shanghai Media Group, Shenzhen Television and other leading media organisations on management and ideas in the UK creative industries.
Third, public awareness of China. Aside from seminars in 11, Downing Street, and in Parliament the Centre manages a wide variety of public events.
中国传媒中心是欧洲唯一一个致力于中国传媒研究 的学术机构。它成立于2005年,由英国广播公司(BBC)的头牌主播Jeremy Paxman和中央电视台副台长孙玉胜先生共同创立。
中国传媒中心主要组织三个方面的活动:
第一,学术研究。全方位,多角度的研究中国传媒系统。
第二,实务培训。三年来,中心多次为湖南广电集团,上海媒体集团,深圳广电集团及其它中国著名传媒机构提供节目制作和媒体管理课程,为其介绍英国创意产业的最新观点和操作系统。

China Media Centre Case Study
The Training Gateway is a new business engagement network, led by the University of York, providing direct access for businesses and business support organisations seeking to procure corporate and professional training from across the range of UK Universities. From many entries, CMC’s work with the SCIO and PDCF was selected as an exemplar; we have been invited to attend with a representative of our Chinese partners, by Lord Sainsbury and Peter Luff MP.

In 2006 the CMC arranged Boris Johnson’s first trip to China, when he was Tory HE spokesman. He and the Director of CMC travelled together to Shanghai and Peking where they were filmed by BBC Newsnight.
2006年,时任影子内阁高等教育部发言人、现任伦敦市长Boris Johnson 在中国传媒中心的安排下,与中心主任戴雨果教授一起,展开了他的首次中国之行;他们在上海和北京的行程由BBC的新闻之夜栏目(News Night)摄制成专题节目在黄金时间播出。

CHINA VISIT REPORT September 2008
PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS TOUR
In September 2008 Alja Kranjec managed a visit to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Beijing by Professor Trevor Morris and Simon Goldsworthy, Senior Lecturer in Public Communication. They gave a talk about crisis management, dealing with bad news and generating good news to the staff of Shanghai Media Group focusing on different aspects of PR and to the government officials on the advanced training programme at the Suzhou Administration College. They lectured and discussed reputation and branding with the Information Office of Hangzhou Municipality and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government.
At the end of the 2 weeks-long tour of China Simon Goldsworthy and Trevor Morris had a lecture at the Tsinghua University with the title From Downing Street to the Corporation World: Managing Reputation & Media Relations for Success.

SETTING UP RESEARCH PROJECTS / TALKING KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER
Also in September Professor Hugo de Burgh visited Tsinghua and Peking Universities, the State Environmental Protection Agency and the China Population Communication Centre to make arrangements for research project bids and agree details of forthcoming conferences about China in the UK.
In addition, he and his team (Post Doctoral Researcher Dr Zeng Rong and Consultant Chang Yiru) discussed future cooperation with friends at CCTV, Beijing TV, Hunan Broadcasting, Zhejiang TV and Shanghai Media Group, among others.

The Tibet Story - Journalism Under Pressure On 21st May the China Media Centre held a public discussion on the Western media’s coverage of the Tibet protests and an encounter between leading Chinese and British journalists. It asked whether China has been represented fairly in the Western media, following recent protests by pro-Chinese students over alleged anti-China bias by the BBC in particular. |

The China Impact: The Westminster Hearings on China’s Economic Development and the UK
This series of 5 conferences in the British Parliament ranged over all the key issues from environmental degradation and resuscitation to innovation and research, financial services and resources. Several Chinese ministers, including Mr Liu Mingkang, addressed the conference as did UK Secretaries of State, Ministers and experts from Parliament. The workshops were led by specialists from UK industry and commerce. The Report, launched in Parliament and at a reception sponsored by McKinsey & Co in Beijing, can be accessed below.
